A Rare Signed Work by One of Canada's Most Celebrated Studio Ceramicists
This charming hand-crafted bird sculpture is a genuine example of Tessa Kidick's mid-century modern studio pottery — signed on the base and in excellent original condition. Kidick (1915–2002) is widely regarded as one of Canada's premier studio ceramicists, she was exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto's Golden Jubilee and was commissioned by the Ontario Arts Council as a key revivalist and teacher of traditional Iroquois pottery. Kidick's work is increasingly sought after by serious collectors of Canadian craft.
From 1955 to 1992, Kidick operated the Emporium of Pottery in Jordan, Ontario (Niagara Region), producing a body of work that is now rare to find in this quality. Pieces like this seldom surface intact and signed.
