Vintage original oil painting depicting a Muskoka river and forest winter landscape, framed in wood. Signed by listed Canadian artist Anna Jalava, 1950s. This work was painted on masonite and is in its original wooden frame. Famous for her Ontario landscapes, Ms. Jalava skillfully painted northern landscapes, particularly in Muskoka, Ontario using soft pastel colours and fine, careful drawings which are the signature for this family of painters.
Anna Jalava was born in Helsinki, Finland. The Jalavas were a family of painters who were known for their beautiful scenes of Muskoka, Ontario.
The Jalava family emigrated to Canada from Helsinki Finland in 1952, including Mauri and Anna-Liisa Jalava, Mauri’s brother Erkki and his wife, also named Anna-Liisa, their mother Orvokki and Mauri’s brother-in-law, Paavo (Paul) Hyttinen.
Anna along with Erkki Jalava and Paul Hyttinen are listed Canadian artists and their works are represented by the National Gallery of Canada - Library and Archives / Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
Anna and Erkki Jalava over time have become the predominant artists of the family and their works are now being sought internationally.
Vintage wood frame is in excellent condition and ready to hang.
