Classic vintage HBC Stripes ceramic coffee tea handled mug. Produced for the Hudson's Bay, Canada.
In excellent condition, free form chips/cracks. Marked with the HBC logo with the 2 deer stags on their hind legs and the Latin phrase "Pro Pelle Cutem", meaning “a pelt for a skin”, which is the traditional motto of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). Dishwasher and microwave safe.

The following is excerpted from the HBC website....
"The multistripes of green, red, yellow and indigo were introduced on the Hudson's Bay Point Blanket at the end of the 18th century. The colours were chosen because they were popular, and easily produced using good colourfast dyes. These four colours are also sometimes known as Queen Anne's colours, since they first became popular during her reign (1702 - 1714)."
