Josef Pravec  (*1928) studied at the University of Applied Arts in Prague in the studio for glass, glyptics and applied sculpture, and as the main designer of the glass factory in his native Úsobí (1950 - 1990) he became a central figure in the fundamental artistic transformation of Czechoslovak cut glass, which was connected with the emergence Brussels style.

Pravec's designs opened the way for glass from Vysočina to new world markets and discovered a new dimension of Czech cut glass. According to his designs, the most beautiful cut glass of its time was created, which is evidenced by the international successes at several EXPOs, especially at the EXPO 1958 show in Brussels . His seemingly simple to minimalistic, but exceptionally demanding decors are still admired and appreciated all over the world today and are still the basis of many designs of used glass.
