This beautifully time worn antique Bentwood Steamer Trunks was well used in the romantic era of train travel. Circa 1910-1930. The trunk is covered in a canvas type of fabric in rich earth tones. The 2 leather handles are original and the latches and lock on the front of the trunk are brass (no key). The distinct feature of these trunks are the beautifully crafted bent wooden bands that not only give the trunk its name, but were meant to provide strength to the body, protecting it from loading/unloading and transport.
As expected, this piece is in antique condition, showing considerable signs of wear and age, with old labels adding to its charm. The trunk functions well and opens/closes easily. The lining is stained and worn, but may be replaced or sealed to preserve it original character. All hardware is brass.
This trunk is a fabulous decorator piece, making a nostalgic addition to your home's decor as a coffee table, blanket box or child's toy chest.
Approximately 30" wide, 18" deep, 15" tall.
