"A clear, "Epic" serving bowl. This piece is cut with the "Corn Flower" (CFID 1143). It was sold by the W.J. Hughes "Corn Flower" Glass Company. Inspection of the cutting dates this piece to ca. 1960. The glass blank was produced by the Viking Glass Company (Viking, "Epic") in West Virginia, USA.
The "Epic" line was marketed as an ultra-modern style of free-form shapes. After its introduction in 1957, "Epic" quickly became a best seller. The W.J. Hughes "Corn Flower" Glass Company soon negotiated exclusive Canadian cutting rights with the Viking Glass Company. The line consisted of 37 individual items sold from 1957-1968."
