A beautiful and artfully hand crafted Peruvian folk art gourd is a lidded bowl made from a hollowed out gourd depicting llamas, native Peruvians and a notched lid in the shape of a star.
This piece is an intricately hand-carved fine art gourd following the Northern Coast of Peru's traditional methods, an ancient Art dating back centuries. The process starts with drying the perfect gourd for 1 - 3 Seasons. Expertly hand carved using a Buril carving tool, the 3-dimensional scene is chiseled and then colored using the ancient art of pyrography. The layers of rich browns are created by controlling the heat intensity with burning wood embers.
Hand Carving gourds is a 4000-year-old tradition that will quickly become a lost art as the younger generations lose the skills and tastes of their ancestors. This trinket box or gourd vessel will be a unique South American or Southwestern Folk Art Decor accent piece among your books and collections.
